Ingredients
  • Oil- 1 tbsp
  • Mustard seeds- 1 tsp
  • Chana dal- ½ tbsp
  • Urad dal- ½ tbsp
  • Whole dry red chilies- 2
  • Curry leaves- 1 sprig
  • Onion, chopped- 1
  • Broccoli, chopped very small- 1 head
  • Turmeric powder- ¼ tsp
  • Chili powder- 1 tsp
  • Coriander powder- 1½ tsp
  • Salt- to taste
  • Water- ¼ cup
Instructions
  1. Finely chop the broccoli in a food processor or chop very small using a knife.
  2. Place a non-stick pan over medium heat, add oil.
  3. When the oil turns hot, add mustard seeds, let it splutter.
  4. First add chana dal, saute till it starts to turn light golden. Then, add urad dal, saute till both dals turn golden brown in color.
  5. Add dry red chilies and curry leaves, saute for a couple of seconds.
  6. Add onion, season with salt, stir fry till light golden in color.
  7. Add chopped broccoli, combine well.
  8. Add ¼ cup water, cook covered till broccoli has cooked.
  9. Open the lid, add turmeric powder, chili powder and coriander powder, combine well.
  10. Stir fry till the water dries off.
  11. Taste and add more salt if needed.
  12. Remove the pan from the heat.
  13. Serve as a side dish along with rice and your favorite curry.
