Basil Fried Brown Rice
To cook rice
  • Brown rice or basmati rice- 1½ cups
  • Water- enough to cook rice in a rice cooker
  • Salt- to taste
For making fried rice
  • Mixed veggies: carrots, beans, corn, peas- 1½ cups (chop carrots and beans very small)
  • Butter- 2 tbsp
  • Basil, chopped- 10 leaves
  • Soy sauce, low sodium- 4 to 5 tbsp
  • Sambal Oelek- 1 tsp (optional)
  • Ground pepper- ¼ tsp
  1. Combine rice, salt and water, cook in a rice cooker till it's cooked well or cook in a sauce pan. Keep aside.
  2. Heat a wok or non-stick pan over medium heat, add butter and let it melt
  3. Add mixed veggies and saute till it turns light golden in color.
  4. Add basil and stir fry till aromatic for a couple of minutes.
  5. Add soy sauce and sambal oelek to it, stir fry it.
  6. Add cooked brown rice and combine well.
  7. Add ground pepper according to your needs and stir fry the rice for a couple of minutes.
  8. Garnish with basil leaves and serve warm as a side dish.
  9. You cannot stop inhaling the aroma from this dish, very refreshing.
•Use low sodium soy sauce.
•After adding soy sauce, taste the fried rice and add more salt if needed.
