Spinach Mushroom Pakoras with Spicy Yogurt Sauce

Ingredients
  • Spinach leaves- 2 cups
  • Mushrooms, chopped- 1 cup
  • Onion, chopped-1
  • Cumin seeds- 1 tsp
  • Chili powder- ¾ tsp
  • Asafoetida (optional)- ¼ tsp
  • Gram flour- 1 cup
  • Cilantro, chopped- ¼ cup
  • Salt- 1 tsp
  • Water
  • Oil- enough for frying
Gram Flour Batter
  • Gram Flour- 2 cups
  • Salt- ½ tsp
  • Water- enough to hold the veggies
Spicy Yogurt Sauce Recipe
  • Yogurt- 1 cup
  • Green chilies- 2
  • Cilantro, chopped- ¼ cup
  • Salt- ¾ tsp
Instructions
  1. In a large bowl, combine spinach, mushrooms, onion, cumin seeds, chili powder, asafetida, salt, cilantro and gram flour.
  2. Slowly add water till the the veggies hold together well or till you can make balls out of the veggies.
  3. In another bowl, combine gram flour, salt and add enough water to make a thick batter. Make sure the batter is thick.
  4. Place a frying pan over medium heat, add oil, let turn hot.
  5. Make small balls out of the veggie mixture.
  6. Dip the veggie balls in the gram flour batter and coat well.
  7. Fry in hot oil till golden brown in color.
  8. Transfer to a paper towel.
  9. You could even fry the veggie balls without dipping in the gram flour batter, if so there wouldn't be much gram flour coating, look at the two pakoras on the first picture, I fried those without dipping in the batter.
  10. When you dip it in the batter, it will turn more crispy.
Spicy Yogurt Sauce Recipe
  1. In a blender, combine the above-mentioned ingredients to a smooth paste.
  2. Pour into a bowl and serve along with pakoras.
Notes
•For making pakoras you could add any veggies of your choice: peas, broccoli chopped small, potato, etc
