Instant Pot Spaghetti and Meat Balls

Instant Pot one pot meal- Delicious Spaghetti and Meat balls…

Literally anything can be made in the Instant Pot, forget about the oven to make the meat balls. You just have to pressure cook the meat balls in the Instant Pot and they will be done by the time you have the spaghetti and the sauce ready.

This is yet another favorite one pot meal of mine and my Man. I made the meat balls healthy by adding lots of minced veggies, some seasonings and I even skipped eggs. Bread crumbs was also added to the ground beef mix. I was worried about the beef balls breaking apart, that didn’t happen. Though you have to handle the cooked beef balls gently while mixing them with the sauce and spaghetti.

I’m pretty sure this will be going to be your family favorite one pot meal. You could add any kind of veggies and seasonings to the ground beef. Give it a try!

Ingredients
For making Ground beef balls
  • Ground beef- 1 Lb or ½ Kg
  • Onion, minced- 1
  • Green pepper, minced- use ½ of the green pepper
  • Red pepper, minced- use ½ of the red pepper
  • Green onions, minced- 1 stalk
  • Cilantro, minced- 2 handfuls
  • Chili powder or Cayenne- 1 tsp
  • Ground Cumin- 1 tsp
  • Paprika- 1 tsp
  • Dried Oregano- 1 tsp
  • Ground pepper- ½ tsp
  • Salt- 1½ tsp
  • Breadcrumbs- ½ cup
For making the sauce
  • Oil- 1 tbsp
  • Onion, chopped- 2
  • Tomato sauce- 1½ cups
  • Water- ½ cup
  • Beef broth left on the aluminum foil after cooking beef balls
  • Chili powder- ¼ to ½ tsp (if you need this dish to be spicy)
  • Dried Oregano 1 tsp
  • Ground cumin- ½ tsp
  • Salt- ½ tsp
  • Cooked Spaghetti- 1 pack
  • Cilantro, chopped- 2 handfuls
Instructions
  1. In a large bowl, combine all the ingredients to make the beef balls.
  2. Make small balls out of the mix and keep aside.
  3. Turn on the Instant Pot.
  4. Add 1 cup water into the stainless steel pot.
  5. Place the trivet on the water.
  6. Place the aluminum foil on the trivet- make it into a bowl shape.
  7. Place the beef balls on the foil.
  8. Close the pot with the lid.
  9. If using 7 in 1 or 7 in 1 DUO- turn the knob to Sealing. In Ultra, no need to worry about turning to sealing.
  10. Select the pressure cook mode. ( In 7 in 1 DUO: Manual- high pressure. Click Adjust- set time to 10 minutes).
  11. In Ultra: Set the time to 10 minutes, and at high pressure, click start.
  12. After 10 minutes of pressure cooking, do a natural pressure release (NPR)- takes about 20 minutes.
  13. Open the lid, beef balls will be cooked perfectly. There will be some beef broth left on the aluminum foil- we will be adding this while making the sauce.
  14. In the meantime, cook the spaghetti in a large pot filled with water and seasoned with salt and 1 tbsp oil.
  15. Drain the water from the cooked spaghetti and keep aside.
  16. Let's make the sauce.
  17. Turn on the Saute Mode, at normal temperature.
  18. When the display shows Hot. Add 1 tbsp oil.
  19. Add onion, season with ½ tsp salt- combine well and saute till onions turn golden in color.
  20. Add tomato sauce, water and the beef broth. Combine well and cook for 3 minutes.
  21. Add chili powder, dried oregano, ground cumin and salt. combine well.
  22. Add the cooked beef balls, pour the sauce over the beef balls.
  23. Add the cooked spaghetti. Using a tong, gently mix with the sauce- don't combine vigorously as the beef balls can break apart.
  24. Garnish with cilantro.
  25. Place the spaghetti along with the sauce on a bowl and top with beef balls. Enjoy this hearty and healthy spaghetti and meat balls.
Notes
Beef balls can be topped on salads, wrapped in pita bread or tortilla; so many options for making quick fix meals.
