Spicy Chicken Curry - Kerala Style

Ingredients
  • Coconut oil- 2 tbsp
  • Ginger and Garlic, minced- 1 tbsp
  • Coriander powder- 2 tbsp
  • Kashmiri red chili powder- 2 tbsp (adjust accordingly)
  • Chicken masala- ½ tbsp
  • Onions, chopped- 2, large
  • Small onions, chopped- 12
  • Curry leaves- 1 sprig
  • Green chili, chopped-6
  • Tomatoes, chopped- 2
  • Chicken pieces, bone-in- 1 kg
  • Yogurt- 100 ml
  • Garam masala- 1 tsp
  • Black pepper powder- 1 tsp
  • Fennel powder- 2 tsp
  • Cinnamon- 2 inch slice
  • Curry leaves- 1 sprig
  • Salt- to taste
Instructions
  1. Add oil to a large pan, add minced ginger-garlic, saute for a minute.
  2. Add coriander powder, Kashmiri red chili powder, chicken masala, saute for 2 minutes.
  3. Add chopped onions, small onions, green chilies, curry leaves and salt. Cook till onions start to turn brown.
  4. Add tomatoes, cook for a few minutes.
  5. Add the chicken pieces, combine well and cook for 5 minutes.
  6. Add salt to taste.
  7. Add yogurt, garam masala, black pepper powder, fennel powder and cinnamon, combine well and cook covered till chicken has cooked well.
  8. Taste and add more more salt if needed.
  9. Open the lid, combine well, add curry leaves and cook till the gravy thickens.
  10. Serve with chapati, poori, pathiri, rice etc.
